On June 8th, World Oceans Day, skincare brand De La Mer will be holding a beach cleanup at Isshiki Beach in Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture. World Oceans Day was officially adopted by the United Nations in 2009 as a day to recognize the connection the world has with the ocean and to take action for environmental conservation. The goal of this beach cleanup is to raise awareness of the ocean's beauty and importance. Participants must register at restaurant Villa Marea before the start time, receive gloves and a garbage bag, and then participate at any time between 10:00 and 17:00. After the cleanup, participants will receive a De La Mer sample and can enjoy a non-alcoholic ocean-inspired cocktail at the restaurant. De La Mer, which means "sea" in French, has been actively involved in marine conservation efforts and has donated approximately $2 million to the cause. Last year, for World Oceans Day, we supported the activities of marine researcher Dr. Sylvia Earle. Building on this work, this year we will support the work of up-and-coming researcher Dr. Andrea Marshall. Dr. Marshall supports the habitats of endangered species and vulnerable marine creatures such as manta rays, whose survival is at risk worldwide, and is also known for founding the Marine Megafauna Conservation Foundation.
In addition, to commemorate World Oceans Day 2014, De La Mer will be selling a limited edition 100ml version of Crème de la Mer. The sale will run from June 1st to 30th, priced at 49,000 yen. A raffle will also be held at the event on June 8th, where participants can win this cream. Details of the event can be found on the brand's official Facebook page.
