Shiseido's first illumination in two years: Red Christmas tree lights up

Nov 12, 2013

On the 8th, Shiseido launched its Christmas illuminations at its new headquarters, the Shiseido Ginza Building. The illuminations were last displayed in 2010 due to the reconstruction of the headquarters building, and this year marks the first time they have been lit since the building's opening, marking the first time in two years.

This year's theme is "Sparkling Rouge." Rouge means "red" in French and is also Shiseido's corporate color. The two cypress trees planted on either side of the entrance to the French restaurant "L'OSIER" on the first floor are equipped with 30,000 LED bulbs. The bulbs are programmed to flash red and white to form the letter "S," the initial letter of Shiseido. The design was created by lighting designer Harumi Fujimoto.

The lighting ceremony was attended by Shiseido Executive Officer Takahiro Hayashi and L'Osier chef Olivier Chaignon. Mr. Hayashi said in his greeting, "Ginza has always brought brilliance to the world and provided new value. I hope that people passing by will enjoy these beautiful illuminations." Mr. Chaignon commented, "I think the illuminations will create a Parisian atmosphere on Namiki-dori (the street the building faces)."

The illuminations will be lit from 4:00 p.m. to midnight every day until December 25th.
