The newly released “ROTEMIT™” by Onitsuka Tiger feels emblematic of that movement. Based on archive footwear from the 1980s, the model reconstructs classic athletic design through a modern perspective. The shoe was released on May 15.

Reinterpreting 1980s Sports Footwear

“ROTEMIT™” takes its inspiration from 1980s volleyball shoes. While retaining the distinctive silhouette associated with classic sports footwear, the design has been refined to integrate naturally into contemporary fashion styling.

The upper combines matte-textured textiles with soft cow suede, producing a layered expression where vintage nuance coexists with a sense of refinement. Subtle wrinkling across the upper also gives the shoe the impression of a product already shaped through wear and time. Rather than simple nostalgia, the design feels closer to a reconstructed form of vintage — one fully aware of the past while reimagining it for the present.

A Sole Design That Creates Sculptural Presence

The split cup-shaped outsole, combined with vertically emphasized detailing, creates a sculptural sense of volume around the foot. While rooted in classic athletic footwear, the silhouette carries a distinctly contemporary presence.
