On April 4, 2026, a new chapter quietly unfolded in Kamakura. ATTITU opened its first standalone store—marking a significant step for a brand that, until now, has remained largely under the global radar.

The location is equally telling. The store occupies the second floor of Tsuchiya Kaban’s Kamakura shop, a space long associated with one of Japan’s most respected leather goods makers. Rather than starting from a blank slate, ATTITU inserts itself into an existing context—reworking it from within.

Founded in 1965, Tsuchiya Kaban built its reputation through meticulously crafted randoseru (traditional Japanese school bags), later expanding into leather goods with a philosophy grounded in precision, durability, and quiet refinement. At its core lies a belief that good craftsmanship can approach an ideal—an answer shaped through discipline and repetition.

ATTITU, however, proposes a subtle but decisive shift. Its concept—“There is no right answer”—reframes that legacy.
Rather than rejecting craftsmanship, it extends it, moving beyond the pursuit of perfection toward an acceptance of ambiguity, flexibility, and personal interpretation.

This shift becomes evident in the products themselves. The new collection centers on lightweight nylon backpacks, defined by minimal construction and soft, draped forms created through drawstring structures. While maintaining functionality, the designs introduce a sense of looseness—an intentional “gap” that resists rigid categorization.

The newly introduced footwear further expands this approach. Combining leather, mesh, and suede-like materials with Vibram soles, the shoes sit somewhere between dress shoes and sneakers. They are not designed to fit neatly into a predefined category, but rather to adapt to how they are worn—leaving room for the wearer’s own interpretation.

The spatial design of the Kamakura store reinforces this philosophy. The interior embraces negative space, punctuated by subtle gestures that avoid over-definition. Located in a city where historical depth and contemporary culture coexist, the store does not simply display products—it stages an attitude.

What Tsuchiya Kaban has long represented is a pursuit of correctness in craftsmanship. ATTITU, by contrast, suggests what comes after that pursuit—what emerges when precision is no longer the sole objective.
From defining use to allowing interpretation.
From refining answers to embracing openness.
ATTITU’s first store in Kamakura quietly marks that transition.
