Prada Releases Japan-Exclusive Sandals—A Refined Recomposition of Sport-Inspired Design

Apr 7, 2026
Prada has introduced a pair of Japan-exclusive calf leather sandals, now available across select stores and online.

While grounded in elements typically associated with sportswear, the design does not merely combine function and elegance. Instead, it reworks athletic references into a distinctly Prada language—one that transforms utility into a refined, everyday expression.

Recomposing the Language of Sport
Prada has long approached sport not as a category, but as a vocabulary.

In this model, lightweight EVA soles and a stable, supportive structure provide comfort and ease of movement. Yet these functional elements are not presented as ends in themselves. They are distilled and rearticulated into a clean, composed silhouette.

What emerges is not a balance between opposites, but a recalibration—where performance-driven features are absorbed into a broader notion of modern elegance.

Matelassé as Structure
The upper features a crisscross construction, enhanced with delicate padding and shaped through skilled craftsmanship into a sculptural matelassé form.

This technique—one of Prada’s defining signatures—introduces both softness and architectural depth. It creates volume without excess, allowing the sandal to retain a sense of lightness while maintaining a strong visual presence.

The enamel metal triangle logo and the buckle at the back strap serve as precise accents, anchoring the design within Prada’s established codes.

Designed for the Body
Beyond its visual language, the sandal is engineered for wearability.

The insole is shaped to envelop the foot three-dimensionally, supporting natural movement while maintaining comfort over extended wear. A 4.5 cm sole height adds subtle elevation without disrupting balance.

Here, design operates simultaneously on two levels—what is seen, and what is felt.

Why Japan
The decision to release this model exclusively in Japan is not incidental.

The Japanese market has long demonstrated a sensitivity to both functional refinement and aesthetic precision—qualities that align closely with Prada’s design philosophy.

In this context, exclusivity becomes less about limitation and more about alignment: a dialogue between product and place.

The sandals are now available at Prada stores across Japan and through the brand’s official website.
