Founded in Switzerland in 1862 as a rope manufacturer, MAMMUT began with equipment entrusted with the lives of climbers. For more than 160 years, the brand has continued to engage with the mountains, evolving into an outdoor company whose range now spans apparel, footwear, backpacks, climbing gear, and avalanche safety equipment.
For Fall/Winter 2026, MAMMUT presents “MAMMUT INNOVATION,” a project that draws on the technology, knowledge, and values accumulated throughout its long history and carries them into contemporary products and culture. One of its points of origin is the brand’s development of equipment for those taking on the Eiger North Face.
Among the seven innovations presented this season, two collaborations stand out from a fashion perspective: eYe JUNYA WATANABE MAN and fragment, led by Hiroshi Fujiwara.

One reinterprets MAMMUT’s archives and mountain-born design through clothing. The other connects a tool designed to save lives in the snow with fashion and culture. Both begin with MAMMUT, yet approach the relationship between outdoor culture and fashion from entirely different directions.
The collaboration between eYe JUNYA WATANABE MAN and MAMMUT comprises seven pieces: six apparel styles and one bag.
Its starting point is MAMMUT’s extensive archive and the design language that emerged from the mountain environment over the course of the brand’s history.

JUNYA WATANABE looks anew at clothing originally created for environments where function is essential. By bringing MAMMUT’s functionality and craftsmanship into dialogue with JUNYA WATANABE’s creative vision, products rooted in the mountains are translated into a contemporary wardrobe.

The distance between outdoor clothing and fashion has changed dramatically in recent years. Qualities such as waterproofing, wind protection, and lightness are no longer specialized specifications reserved for the mountains; they have become equally relevant to everyday life in the city.
Yet this collaboration goes beyond simply adapting outdoor clothing for urban wear.

What JUNYA WATANABE engages with is MAMMUT’s alpine heritage itself. Functions and details developed out of necessity in the mountains remain visible, while their meaning is recast within contemporary fashion. The approach also resonates with JUNYA WATANABE’s longstanding practice of reconstructing existing garments, uniforms, and workwear within new contexts.
Born for the mountains, these elements pass through the designer’s perspective and emerge as new clothing for the city. That transition is what makes the collaboration compelling.
The collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara’s fragment reaches the essence of MAMMUT from a very different direction. At its center is neither a jacket nor a bag. It is the “Barryvox S2,” an avalanche transceiver used in search and rescue.
Courtesy of MAMMUT
Barryvox is an avalanche beacon designed to help locate people buried by an avalanche. Within MAMMUT’s long history, it is one of the products most closely connected to a fundamental aspect of the brand: safety in the mountains.

For the new “Barryvox S2 FRGMT Edition,” this piece of snow-safety equipment has been given a fragment treatment. The collaboration grew from Fujiwara’s own passion for snowboarding and the mountains, together with a shared desire between fragment and MAMMUT to bring greater awareness to safety in the snow.

Its significance extends beyond placing a logo on a piece of outdoor equipment. MAMMUT began in 1862 by making ropes on which lives depended. Safety is therefore not an ornamental part of the brand narrative; it has shaped the products themselves.
By engaging with that aspect of MAMMUT, fragment brings avalanche safety equipment into view for an audience in fashion and culture that might otherwise rarely encounter it.

Limited-edition apparel bearing the FRGMT and MAMMUT logos accompanies the collaboration. Together, the pieces create movement in both directions: fashion can become an entry point to the mountains, while the culture of the mountains can find another route into fashion.
The two collaborations are not the only attempts to connect the mountains with urban life.
Newly introduced as part of “MAMMUT INNOVATION 2026,” “ALPS” is an urban collection that brings MAMMUT’s mountain technology into the context of everyday city life.

The collection was developed in collaboration with Italian design studio Pininfarina, whose work spans automobiles, products, architecture, and other fields. Its design perspective is combined with the functionality MAMMUT has developed against the backdrop of the Alps. The collection comprises ten styles in total, with five for men and five for women.

MAMMUT has long applied technology developed in the mountains to products for urban life. With ALPS, that relationship becomes more explicit, bringing function and minimalist design together within a single collection.

Seen together, these collaborations reveal the different ways MAMMUT’s technology and history can enter contemporary everyday life.
“MAMMUT INNOVATION 2026” also encompasses “Eiger Free 2.0,” the brand’s top-tier snow collection, and the “DRY DOWN” collection, developed with a commitment to 100% pure down.

Beyond products, MAMMUT supports athletes taking on the mountains themselves. The brand serves as Official Main Partner of the HASETSUNE Cup, the Japan Mountain Endurance Race, and as Main Partner and Official Safety Partner of the Freeride World Tour (FWT). The knowledge gained through these relationships with athletes also feeds into the next generation of innovation.

A rope made more than 160 years ago, a JUNYA WATANABE garment in 2026, and an avalanche transceiver created with Hiroshi Fujiwara may appear far removed from one another. Running through them, however, is MAMMUT’s enduring commitment to creating products that function in the mountains.
JUNYA WATANABE brings that technology and philosophy into the present through clothing, while fragment approaches it through the idea of safety.
How far can functionality born in the mountains travel when it intersects with fashion and culture? “MAMMUT INNOVATION 2026” offers one answer, connecting the accumulated technology and history of an outdoor brand with contemporary creative practice.
