The way we travel may have evolved over time, but the pursuit of tools that enrich the journey itself remains unchanged.
Louis Vuitton has unveiled the Horizon Aluminum, the Maison’s first-ever suitcase crafted entirely from aluminum. Created to mark the 10th anniversary of the Horizon, first introduced in 2016, the new design represents a meeting point between Louis Vuitton’s travel heritage and the innovative vision of industrial designer Mark Newson.

Louis Vuitton and Mark Newson have been collaborating for more than a decade.
Renowned for his work across disciplines ranging from furniture design to aviation, Newson is widely regarded as one of the most influential industrial designers of our time. Introduced in 2016, the Horizon was conceived from his extensive travel experience, combining streamlined aesthetics with exceptional functionality.

Over the past decade, the Horizon has become one of Louis Vuitton’s signature travel pieces. This latest iteration can be seen as the culmination of that journey.

The defining feature of the new collection is its aluminum body—the first of its kind for the Maison.
Highly durable and recyclable, aluminum has long been associated with Mark Newson’s design language. It also carries a significant place in Louis Vuitton’s own history.

In the late nineteenth century, Louis Vuitton produced aluminum trunks for explorers and adventurers. The Horizon Aluminum therefore represents more than a technological innovation; it is also a return to the Maison’s origins as a maker of travel trunks.

The innovation behind the Horizon Aluminum extends beyond its material.
Instead of the ribbed grooves commonly found on aluminum luggage, the shell is embossed with Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram pattern. More than a decorative element, the pattern serves a structural purpose, reinforcing the strength of the suitcase itself.

The design also incorporates a series of technical innovations, including concealed hinges and hardware, as well as what Louis Vuitton describes as the world’s first screw-free aluminum suitcase construction. Together, these details contribute to the collection’s remarkably clean and minimalist silhouette.

Aluminum luggage naturally acquires scratches and dents over time.
Louis Vuitton embraces these traces not as signs of wear, but as records of travel. While engineered for durability and impact resistance, the suitcase is designed to carry the memory of each journey on its surface—a reflection of a luxury philosophy rooted in longevity rather than perfection.

The collection also incorporates repair-conscious features, including removable linings and replaceable components, supporting long-term maintenance and care.

Today, luxury is increasingly defined not by exclusivity alone, but by longevity, craftsmanship, and the ability to acquire meaning over time.
The Horizon Aluminum embodies Louis Vuitton’s 170-year travel heritage alongside Mark Newson’s contemporary design philosophy. It is more than a piece of luggage for transportation—it is a companion designed to enrich the experience of travel itself.
