A familiar everyday object—the hair dryer—is being reframed through the lens of mobility.

Dyson is marking the launch of the Dyson Supersonic™ Travel hair dryer with a pop-up event at Haneda Airport Terminal 3. Running from April 25 to May 6, 2026, the event offers hands-on product experiences alongside a large-scale photo installation inspired by an oversized suitcase.

Reengineering “Travel”
The newly introduced Dyson Supersonic™ Travel hair dryer achieves a 32% reduction in size and 25% reduction in weight compared to previous models, while maintaining Dyson’s signature performance. It is also the first in the Supersonic range to feature universal voltage, enabling seamless use abroad.

According to on-site explanations, while certain features have been streamlined compared to the flagship Dyson Supersonic Nural™ Shine hair dryer, the Travel model retains more than sufficient functionality for everyday use.

For existing Dyson users, compatibility with shared attachments allows for easy integration as a second device, making it a practical extension of their current routine.

Additionally, the power plug has been redesigned from a bulkier adapter-style format to a more streamlined, integrated plug. This seemingly small adjustment significantly reduces the burden of carrying the device, reinforcing its travel-oriented design philosophy.

Haneda as a Point of Departure
The pop-up takes place in the Hirokoji area on the 4th floor of Haneda Airport’s Terminal 3—a gateway for international travel. While it might initially appear to target inbound travelers, the concept seems more closely aligned with Japanese users heading overseas.

In the transitional moments before departure or after arrival, the act of grooming becomes part of the travel experience. This product appears to position itself precisely within that in-between space.

Design for a Mobile Lifestyle
Features such as lightweight construction and universal voltage are not limited to travel alone. Today, routines increasingly extend beyond the home—whether at gyms, saunas, or during outdoor activities. The ability to carry familiar tools and maintain one’s standard of care wherever one goes has become a growing expectation.

This hair dryer appears to respond directly to that shift. As the boundary between home and outside spaces continues to blur, the idea of a “portable everyday” is beginning to take shape.

The Pop-Up as Experience
Beyond product trials, the event includes an immersive photo installation where visitors can step inside a giant suitcase. This visual device functions as a tangible expression of the “travel” concept.

By presenting the product not just as an object but as part of an experience, Dyson articulates a broader vision of how everyday routines might evolve.

Carrying One’s Everyday
The Dyson Supersonic™ Travel is more than a compact hair dryer. It represents a way of living untethered to a single place—where grooming, movement, and personal standards coexist seamlessly.

Set within an airport—a space defined by transit—this pop-up becomes a symbolic site for that shift.
