While the event takes the form of a market showcasing local produce and specialties from Sakai Town, its significance extends far beyond a conventional regional fair. Through UNITED ARROWS’ distinctive editorial perspective, the project reconstructs the town’s identity within an urban context—transforming it into an experience that visitors can engage with on a personal level.

The venue, UNITED ARROWS LTD. STORE, is located on the ground floor of the company’s headquarters. Originally conceived as part of its sustainability initiative “SARROWS,” the store began as an experimental retail space aimed at minimizing product waste, offering items such as irregular products, repaired pieces, and samples—all new, yet recontextualized.

During the event period, however, the space undergoes a transformation—becoming an “entrance” to Sakai Town itself. Fresh vegetables harvested on the same day, local specialties, collaborative items, floral bouquets, and limited-edition gelato come together to form a multidimensional environment. Within this setting, visitors can experience the immediacy of Sakai Town while remaining in the heart of Tokyo.

This initiative is rooted in a comprehensive partnership established in 2024 between UNITED ARROWS and Sakai Town. Designed to promote regional identity, cultivate new audiences, and contribute to local revitalization, the collaboration has evolved into an ongoing, multifaceted project rather than a one-off event.

Previous initiatives have included the launch of “UA Stand” at a roadside station, the design of school uniforms and municipal staff wear, and visual design projects for public transportation. By applying fashion’s sensibility and design thinking to civic infrastructure and everyday life, UNITED ARROWS has begun to extend its influence beyond the conventional boundaries of fashion.

The current pop-up can be seen as a continuation of this trajectory. A select shop that has long curated and proposed clothing now turns its attention to editing and presenting an entire town.

What emerges is not merely a space for consumption, but a reconfiguration of value and context—an embodiment of UNITED ARROWS’ broader philosophy.

Fashion, in this sense, is not limited to garments alone. It encompasses ways of living, local landscapes, the passage of time, and cultural memory—presented collectively as “style.”

“SAKAIMACHI × UA MARCHE” offers a quiet yet compelling demonstration of this expanded definition.
