Japanese independent fashion brand NTN has unveiled its eighth collection, [BETA 007] Fall-Winter 26, under the theme “MADE BY HAND.”

Since its debut in 2023, NTN has framed each collection as “BETA”—a term that signifies not a finished form, but an ongoing process of trial and refinement in pursuit of better craftsmanship. This season, that philosophy becomes explicit through a focused exploration of the hand.

Rather than privileging efficiency or uniformity, the collection centers on the sensory expressions that emerge from the body—fluctuations, traces, and moments of serendipity that arise only when garments are shaped through human touch. The rhythm of the hands and the movement of the body are allowed to directly inform construction, resulting in forms that feel lived-in and instinctive rather than engineered.

Instead of referencing or reworking historical garments, each detail is reinterpreted in itself, uncovering new functionality and aesthetics embedded within structure. It is a process that, as the brand suggests, can only be discovered by physically engaging with materials and layering each stage of creation.
Premium fabrics carefully sourced from Japan and abroad define the collection’s material vocabulary. Inspired by the tones of the natural world, NTN constructs a nuanced color palette through pigment-coated corduroy and reversible knits that reveal distinct expressions on each side. Subtle shadows and irregular textures created by pigment processing—combined with layered hues and varied knit structures—produce depth unattainable through flat, solid color alone.

Collaboration with Ceramic Artist Ryutaro Yamada
This season also introduces collaborative works with ceramic artist Ryutaro Yamada, whose practice closely resonates with the collection’s theme.

The act of touching clay, exploring form, and firing each piece embodies what it means to create shape by hand. Though operating in different disciplines, both fashion and ceramics share a commitment to engaging directly with material and allowing the body to guide form.
Yamada studied ceramics formally after attending Tama Art University and later established his studio in Sagamihara, Kanagawa. Known for his “quiet vessels,” he emphasizes tactility, usability, and refined detail over excessive decoration, earning recognition both in Japan and internationally.

The Philosophy of “BETA”
Each NTN collection carries the name “BETA”—a statement that embraces incompletion as a condition for evolution.
Functionality, universality, and durability remain central. Designed to blend naturally into everyday life, the garments adapt to the wearer and to time itself, quietly expanding their possibilities season after season.
