An immersive art exhibition exploring the creative universe of Johnny Depp, “A Bunch of Stuff – Tokyo,” is now open at Takanawa Gateway. Designed as a journey through the “inner rooms of his memory,” the exhibition brings together paintings, film, sound, and animation in a layered, multisensory installation.

This exhibition marks the first opportunity to experience — in a spatial, embodied form — the “other artistic realm” Depp has pursued outside his cinematic career. From the moment visitors step inside, they are quietly ushered into the interior landscape of his gaze.

Tokyo-exclusive installations that expand the landscape of Depp’s “memory”
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a quote from Hunter S. Thompson before moving through a labyrinthine corridor into a bohemian interior reminiscent of Depp’s eclectic studio. Newly unveiled graphic works inspired by actress Hedy Lamarr are on view alongside pieces such as Death by Confetti, which explore themes of public scrutiny and the tension between persona and inner emotion. These works reveal the many layers embedded within Depp’s creative world.

White Box — Over 60 works unfolding the layers of creation
Passing through a vivid red gate, visitors enter the White Box — a space directly linked to Depp’s imagination. All artworks, objects, and carefully selected furniture on display have been gathered from his studios and residences around the world. More than 60 works, from early pieces created in his twenties to recent works, are presented across five distinct rooms. Each room evokes its own atmosphere through light, sound, and interactive elements, summoning contrasting emotional tones — the warmth of intimate memory, the sharp tension of public life, and the impulsive energy of creation.

Toward the end of the journey, an “introspection room” invites visitors to leave behind their own traces. Spontaneous drawings and messages symbolically complete the circle of connection between the artist and each viewer.

Black Box — A 360° film guided by Depp’s own voice
At the heart of the exhibition lies the Black Box, where a 360-degree immersive film animates Depp’s paintings. Accompanied by specially composed music and sound design, the experience weaves his voice with the rhythms of memory and contemplation. Paintings, recollections, and inner thoughts merge across visual and sonic layers, dissolving the boundaries between cinema and visual art.

A Tokyo-exclusive configuration marking the first presentation outside the United States
This Tokyo exhibition represents the first international presentation of “A Bunch of Stuff.” Reconstructed uniquely for Japan, the configuration interlaces moving image, sound, drawing, and sculptural objects to create a space where Depp’s memories, imagination, and emotions appear and vanish as if traversing time — gradually overlapping with each visitor’s own “inner landscape.”
