On April 13th, Jan Arnold, founder of CND, who designed nail designs for the 2013 Autumn/Winter collections of Alexander Wang, Michael van der Ham, and others, visited Japan and held a personal appearance (PA) at the Isetan Shinjuku store.
The PA was held as part of Re-Style's ongoing "Fashion Nail Week 2013," and was made possible by Jan's shared belief that "nails are the ultimate fashion item" with Re-Style.
Jan founded the professional nail product brand CND in 1979. Over the past 30 years, he has established himself as an opinion leader in the fields of nail technology, fashion trends, and education, and continues to lead the nail industry today. Starting with Cynthia Rowley's collection in 1996, Jean has designed nail designs for fashion shows for top global brands, including Jason Wu, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Marc Jacobs, and Nicola Miller. In addition to fashion shows, Jean has also been commissioned to design nails for celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Madonna, and Angelina Jolie. Jean is currently in Japan to promote CND Shellac, a new power polish developed by CND. Jean explains the background of the product: "We developed this product to address the concerns of people who are frustrated by the poor durability of traditional nail polish (manicure), such as the tendency for it to peel off after just two or three days, or who are reluctant to file their natural nails like gel nails do, or who feel stressed by the time it takes to remove them." CND Shellac minimizes damage to the nail because it does not damage the natural nail, and its long-lasting effect lasts for two to three weeks. Jean coordinated her outfit from head to toe in white. When asked about Tokyo fashion, she smiled and said, "Not only women but also men in Tokyo are stylish. I think fashion sense is built into their DNA. They enjoy dressing up effortlessly, and they're good at coordinating accessories." Regarding this season's trends, she said, "I recommend pale pastels and slightly muted, vintage-inspired colors. Bauhaus-style prints and pattern-on-pattern combinations are also popular. I want Japanese women to see nails as an important element of their overall look. Trends are important, but I also want them to try bold colors and designs they've never tried before." Re-Style's "Fashion Nail Week 2013" runs until April 16th. During this period, in addition to "CND," THE NAIL SHOP, a nail tip shop by AYA FUKUDA, who is responsible for Lady Gaga's nail art, will also be open for a limited time. AYA FUKUDA will be visiting the store on the 14th to host a PA.
The storefront also features a huge display of art nails by Shinko Mochiki, who works on spatial design for stage and television.
