Graffiti artist Stephen Powers has published a new collection of his works, "A LOVE LETTER TO THE CITY." On April 18th, he will hold a book signing event at Bookmark, a bookstore in Harajuku, Tokyo, run by MARC JACOBS. His first solo exhibition in Japan will also begin on the same day.
Stephen Powers was active as a graffiti writer for ESPO, and now runs a sign shop and a mural project called "A Love Letter for You," which spreads art to cities around the world. "A LOVE LETTER TO THE CITY," his first book of public art, includes works from Brooklyn and Syracuse in New York; Philadelphia; Dublin and Belfast in Ireland; São Paulo in Brazil; and Johannesburg in South Africa. The book is priced at 3,300 yen. The signing event is open to those who purchase the book at Bookmark on the 18th.
His solo exhibition, "TODAY IS ALREADY TOMORROW," will be held at Gallery Target in Harajuku, Tokyo. This will be his first exhibition since a group exhibition with Barry McGee and Todd James at Parco Gallery in Tokyo in 2000. The venue will exhibit a wide range of works, from original enamel paintings to silkscreen prints.
