Hublot × Yohji Yamamoto — Freeing Black from Color: Where Watchmaking Meets the Aesthetics of Mode

Jan 9, 2026
Hublot and Yohji Yamamoto have once again come together, marking their fourth collaboration since their first partnership in 2020. Unveiled on January 7, 2026, the latest creation reflects a shared exploration of black—not as a color, but as an essence shaped by material, structure, and light.

For Hublot, black has long transcended chromatic definition. Since introducing the All Black concept in 2006, the brand has treated black as a medium that absorbs light, allowing volume and texture to emerge through contrast and shadow. Yohji Yamamoto, meanwhile, has used black since his Paris debut in 1981 as a language of resistance—freeing fashion from ornament and convention, and sharpening form, silhouette, and material itself. What unites both is an understanding of black not as absence, but as substance.

In this collaboration, that philosophy takes shape through a reinterpretation of camouflage. The dial features a black-on-black camouflage pattern rendered not through color contrast, but through relief and depth. As light shifts across the surface, the pattern subtly appears and recedes, introducing rhythm and movement within a monochrome field.

The 42mm case is crafted from micro-blasted black ceramic, its matte surface designed to suppress reflection and emphasize shadow. The result is a restrained yet powerful presence on the wrist, where form is defined by contour rather than shine.

Completing the composition is a strap that combines fabric and rubber, merging tactile couture sensibility with Hublot’s technical precision. An all-black presentation box, engraved with Yohji Yamamoto’s signature logo, underscores the piece’s status as a limited edition.

Produced in a worldwide edition of 300 pieces, this collaboration stands as a meeting point between watchmaking and fashion—where black is liberated from color and reimagined as a shared aesthetic language. It is a timepiece that quietly questions what luxury means today.
