The value we seek in beauty is undergoing a profound shift.
Beyond visible results and functional performance, there is a growing desire for experiences that resonate emotionally and speak directly to our inner sensibilities.
On December 12, 2025, POLA GINZA reopened in Tokyo as a symbol of this transition.
With its renewal, POLA has moved beyond the conventional role of a cosmetics store, reimagining the space as one that engages the latent aesthetic consciousness within each visitor.
As POLA approaches its 100th anniversary in 2029, this global flagship stands as a declaration of its vision for the next century—communicating a philosophy of beauty to the world through experience rather than explanation.

A Singular Space Born from Creative Collaboration
The renewed POLA GINZA is the result of a rare collaboration between four internationally acclaimed creators: architect Kazuyo Sejima, composer Keiichiro Shibuya, lighting designer Masami Toyohisa, and olfactory artist Kan Izumi.Rather than layering their individual contributions, the aim was integration.Architecture, sound, light, and scent respond to one another, forming a unified environment that gently opens the senses. The result is not a spectacle, but a subtle, immersive experience that unfolds differently for each person who enters.POLA envisioned a place not merely to enhance the skin, but to deepen self-awareness— a space where human potential quietly begins to expand.

The first floor is conceived as “Flora Forest,” a theme articulated by architect Kazuyo Sejima.

Stepping inside from the vibrant streets of Ginza, visitors find themselves in an organic, tranquil environment where the rhythm of time feels slightly altered.
The sculptural objects known as Flora—derived from the Latin word for plants and flowers—act as mediators between exterior and interior, everyday life and introspection.

This spatial experience is enriched by layered sensory elements. Keiichiro Shibuya’s sound installation Abstract Music continuously generates and transforms sound in real time, creating a sonic landscape that exists only in that moment. Masami Toyohisa’s lighting design, built around the paradox of “creating shadow rather than light,” employs approximately 35,000 LEDs to produce soft, shifting illumination. Kan Izumi’s olfactory compositions subtly engage the senses, working beneath conscious awareness.

Together, these elements stimulate all five senses, encouraging visitors to slow down and enter a quiet dialogue with themselves.
B1F|An Immersive Total Care Experience
On the basement level, POLA introduces its new total care service, Recense Esthetic, within a deeply enveloping environment. Four private treatment rooms are shaped by gentle curves, evoking the feeling of being embraced by nature itself.

Here, sound and scent continue to play a vital role. AI-generated audio prompts—posing questions such as “What is beauty?” and “How can one become beautiful?”—are delivered at intervals, resonating like internal reflections. The interplay of sound and fragrance elevates each treatment beyond physical care, guiding visitors toward profound mental and emotional release.

Custom-designed furnishings by Kazuyo Sejima integrate seamlessly into the space, ensuring that the environment itself becomes an essential part of the experience.
Beauty, Entering Its Next Phase
Architecture, sound, light, and scent converge at POLA GINZA, transforming it into a place where beauty is not simply observed, but deeply felt.
What awaits here is not a definitive answer, but beauty as a question—
one that unfolds differently within each individual who passes through the space.
