COMME des GARÇONS JUNYA WATANABE MAN held its show in the library of Henri IV High School, one of Paris's leading prestigious schools. A painting of a pine tree reminiscent of a Noh stage graced the runway. As Noh music played, indigo-dyed pieces incorporating Japanese motifs and the brand's signature intricate patchwork were unveiled. Models sported topknot hairstyles and coordinated geta sandals. Traditional motifs such as basket-weave (rokutsume weave), chrysanthemums, pine bark diamonds, and dragons were combined with Western motifs like stripes and checks to create modern pieces like hooded blousons and jackets. Furoshiki-style bags also attracted attention as accessories. The patchwork, a true masterpiece, showcased intricate handcraftsmanship, combining various prints and embroidering in a sashiko style. The collection successfully added a new dimension to traditional Japanese tastes, which are rarely seen in Japan.
