HOSOO Expands into Menswear—“HOSOO MEN” Reframes Clothing as a Relationship Between Material and Body

Mar 30, 2026
Founded in 1688, HOSOO, a textile house rooted in Kyoto’s Nishijin district, launches a new menswear line, “HOSOO MEN.”

Nishijin weaving, cultivated over more than 1,200 years through aristocratic, samurai, and merchant cultures, has long stood at the core of Japan’s decorative textile tradition. While preserving this heritage, HOSOO has connected its techniques to contemporary luxury—and now, for the first time, steps into full-scale menswear.

At the core of this project lies a consistent philosophy: the relationship between material and time. Textiles are understood not merely as matter, but as an accumulation of time. Extending this perspective into clothing, “HOSOO MEN” reframes garments not as form, but as relationships.

It is an attempt to reveal the dynamic interactions that emerge between material and body—tensions, intervals, and shifting expressions shaped through movement. Clothing is presented not as a finished product, but as a state that continues to be generated through wear.

The collection comprises nine styles, including coats, jackets, shirts, and trousers inspired by elements of Japanese dress such as the katsugi (a draped covering), as well as “sō,” the most fluid form in the calligraphic triad shin-gyō-sō. Crafted entirely from HOSOO Artisanal Hemp, the pieces are presented in a minimal palette of off-white and sumi.

On March 28, 2026, a flagship store will open in Kyoto. Designed by HOSOO architecture, the space is conceived as an environment where the relationship between material, body, and world can be experienced.

The transition of Nishijin weaving—textiles shaped by time—into the medium of clothing marks not simply an extension of tradition, but a redefinition of how time itself is engaged.

What “HOSOO MEN” proposes is not merely a new menswear line, but
a new form of luxury—one that allows time and relationships to be worn through clothing.
