The funeral for House of Councillors member Fujimaki Yukio (Kodai), who passed away on March 15, was held on the 20th at Zojoji Temple in Shiba, Tokyo, with approximately 900 people attending despite the rain. More than 1,700 people attended the wake on the 19th to mourn the deceased.
The funeral was a joint ceremony held by the Unity Party and the Fujimaki family. Party leader Eda Kenji delivered a eulogy at the ceremony, expressing his regret at his untimely death: "Fujimaki traveled Japan and the world as a charismatic buyer, constantly sparking new trends. His power was beyond imagination and expectations, even after he entered politics. His efforts to revitalize Japan through Cool Japan design and branding were truly a life-or-death effort." In his eulogy, Taiyo Onishi, president and CEO of Mitsukoshi Isetan HD, who spoke with the deceased on the phone several times a day, said, "The sales floor he worked on while at Isetan remains a great asset to us today. He called unexpectedly and had the opportunity to talk with complete strangers, such as fishermen and young craftspeople supporting local industries. Those were precious moments that only he could have given us," highlighting once again the extraordinary presence of Onishi, who connected people one after another. The wake was attended by many notable figures, including not only those from the political, financial, fashion, and department store worlds, but also Beat Takeshi and Antonio Inoki, highlighting the breadth of his circle of friends.
