Jul 16, 2014

Actress Ginger Rogers was born on July 16, 1911, in Missouri, USA. She passed away on April 25, 1995.
Growing up with her mother, a stage critic, she won a Charleston dance contest at the age of 14. She then toured the United States, performing in vaudeville shows in Texas and Oklahoma. Eventually, she was called to Broadway, and her outstanding dancing talent and style began to attract attention from Hollywood.
She made her film debut in 1930 in Love Quartet. At first, she was only given minor roles, but her appearance in the 1933 musical film The Age of the Air marked a major turning point for her. She co-starred with Fred Astaire, who was still in a supporting role at the time, and their dance scene was ravely received by the audience. The following year, the film "The Continental," starring the two, was a huge success, and the Astaire-Rogers duo went on to appear in a total of 10 films.

While co-starring with Astaire, Rogers also actively appeared in films other than musicals. Although she ended her partnership with Astaire in 1939, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1940 for "The Love Letter." She continued to appear in numerous films, but in the 1960s she shifted her focus to the stage.

Dries Van Noten's 2013-14 Autumn/Winter collection is inspired by the musical film "Top Hat" (1935), in which she co-starred with Astaire.

In her personal life, she married at the age of 17, but divorced just two years later. She continued to marry repeatedly and experienced five divorces in her lifetime.
