To celebrate the launch of Maison Margiela's "5AC" handbags, an installation will be held at Maison Margiela Omotesando (2nd floor, GYRE, 5-10-1 Jingumae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) from August 5th to 16th.
"5AC," which debuted on the Spring/Summer 2016 runway, is the first handbag collection designed by Creative Director John Galliano. It was created based on the Maison's new concept of "anonymity of a lining." The name "5AC" is a coded version of the French word "sac," inspired by 33t speak, a form of online alphabet coding.
While the bags appear traditional in appearance, they are infused with original ideas, unique details, and exquisite artisanal techniques. Features include a brass padlock engraved with the logo, a motif key, and five different shaped studs at the bottom of the bag. The bag's lining (=incognito lining) can also be pulled out to transform it into a vertical shoulder bag.
This season's "5AC" handbags are available in a variety of fabrics and colors, including a bird peck motif, a water snake, and retro airbrushed graphics. In addition to the traditional large and medium sizes, a small size will also be available.
The installation also expresses the worldview of the 2016-17 Fall/Winter collection's theme, "rip and reveal."
