Following on from last year's show, Saint Laurent, under creative director Anthony Vaccarello, held its Fall/Winter 2017-18 men's and women's collection on February 28th at the construction site of the brand's new headquarters on Rue de Bellechasse, near the Musée d'Orsay. Paying homage to the concept-shattering Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent, the show featured strong pieces that combined provocative style with the delicate sophistication of couture. Some pieces strongly evoked Yves Saint Laurent's creations, such as a see-through dress with lace embroidery and a metal cord embroidered dress that referenced Van Gogh's iris motif. However, the show didn't stop at homage; instead, the collection was modernized with iconic accessories, including long mouton gloves, super-long boots, pumps with the YSL logo on the heel, and fringed heart earrings.
This time, there was a particularly wide selection of leather items, and a wide variety of asymmetrical mini dresses studded with crystals. Also eye-catching was a two-piece featuring an Aran knit motif entirely made of beads and crystals. With over 100 pieces, including men's, this collection demonstrated Anthony Vaccarello's talent and talent, and is sure to raise expectations for his next collection.
