Fashion designer Betsey Johnson was born on August 10, 1942, in Connecticut, USA.
In 1969, she opened the boutique "Betsey Bunky Nini" in New York with a friend. Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol's muse, modeled for the store and wore clothes designed by Betsey in her final film, "Ciao! Manhattan."
In the 1970s, she launched the brand "Alley Cat," which achieved success and was awarded the Coty Award by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) in 1972.
In 1978, she founded her own brand, "Betsey Johnson." She grew it into a representative New York brand, but it went bankrupt in 2012. The brand continues to exist today and is currently undergoing restructuring.
