Maison Margiela presented its Fall/Winter 2017-18 men's collection in a presentation format at Emmanuel Perrotin, the gallery known for first showcasing Takashi Murakami in Europe. Aiming for today's Beat Generation and a sense of "calculated imperfection," the collection is peppered with the house's signature ideas. The collection features a variety of materials, including raw edges, raw wool, and raw fabrics, some left untouched, others distressed and thread-exposed, and fur stiffened with spray paint, creating oversized, dropped-shoulder silhouettes. The denim pants, too, are designed with a high waist and unfinished belt. While the house calls this "spontaneous," it could also be interpreted as a free-spirited creation reflecting the hippie mood associated with the Beat Generation.
