Release Date:2020.12.28
Dec 8, 2020
Starting December 28, 2020, Pâtisserie Sadaharu Aoki Paris will begin selling Galette des Rois, a traditional French pastry for celebrating the New Year, at boutiques across Japan and on its official online shopping site.

Galette des Rois is a traditional French pastry essential for New Year celebrations. It is a flaky pastry filled with a generous amount of almond cream. Inside the pastry is a small ceramic toy called a fève. When a slice of pastry is cut, the person whose slice contains the fève is crowned king or queen, receiving blessings from everyone and is said to enjoy continued good fortune for the year.

Sadaharu Aoki's Galette des Rois will be available in two varieties. The new "Galette des Rois Matcha Sesame" features azuki beans hidden in a matcha almond cream topped with plenty of fragrant black sesame seeds, while the classic "Galette des Rois Nature" combines the flavor of rich almond cream with the aroma of mellow rum. Both are made with pie crust imported directly from Paris using 100% Échiré butter, allowing you to enjoy the rich aroma of butter and the robust flavor of flour, making this the perfect Galette des Rois for the start of 2021.

Almonds are hidden inside the pie instead of fèves, and fèves and a paper crown are served separately. Why not gather around the family for a Galette des Rois this New Year?

Product Overview
Galette des Rois Matcha Sesame 3,456 yen (tax included) Diameter approx. 16cm

A luxurious new product that combines the elegant bitterness of matcha from Nishio, Aichi Prefecture, and the gentle sweetness of red beans, with the rich aroma of Echire butter and the fragrant aroma of black sesame in the pie crust. You'll be amazed and captivated by the excellent combination of the pie crust, which brings out the flavors of butter and flour, and the Japanese ingredients, a deliciousness that is unique to Aoki, who skillfully uses Japanese ingredients. The contrast between the delicate pie crust and the texture of the black sesame adds an accent to this unique masterpiece.

Galette des Rois Nature 3,240 yen (tax included) Diameter approx. 16cm

Not only does it have the rich aroma and flavor of Échiré butter, but the unique aroma and umami of French wheat flour, which is less refined and left coarse in texture, spreads throughout your mouth with a delicate, crumbly texture.

The almond cream uses almonds from Valencia, Spain. The gentle flavor of eggs and the aroma of rum have been added to create a rich cream. A classic treat that lets you simply enjoy the flavor of the ingredients.

Faves
This year's fèves come in five varieties, each inspired by Aoki's sweets (Andy Visual).
