Karimoku Furniture has been selling "SAYONARA National Stadium "FOR THE FUTURE" MEMORIAL GOODS Designer with Karimoku Furniture" since July 4th, which features new chairs made from unreserved seats that were installed in the stands of Tokyo's National Stadium.
The National Stadium opened in 1958. In 1964 it was used as the main stadium for the Tokyo Olympics before closing in 2014. Karimoku Furniture used the seats of unreserved seats that were preserved during the demolition work to design and manufacture new chairs in collaboration with designers DRILL DESIGN, Hiroko Shiratori, and Gen Suzuki.
There are 350 "TOKYO Stools (32,400 yen)" designed by Drill Design, 150 "pony Chairs (43,200 yen)" with backrests designed by Shiratori Hiroko, and 200 "KOKURITSU Benches (54,000 yen)" two-seater benches designed by Suzuki Gen, all of which are available for sale in limited quantities. Each chair has a wooden frame that blends beautifully with the unreserved seating in the blue stands, creating a design that is somehow soothing to the soul.
Tickets are available on the "Ticket Pia" website.
