Uniqlo launches 2014-15 Autumn/Winter Life Wear collection featuring updated high-tech materials

May 16, 2014

On May 14th, UNIQLO held a presentation of its UNIQLO LifeWear 2014-2015 Autumn/Winter collection at Bellesalle Shibuya Garden. This year, marking the second year since its debut last year, the collection featured products from 11 projects, ranging from HEATTECH, ULTRA LIGHT DOWN, FLEECE, and EXTRA FINE MERINO to TOPICS!, which features a check pattern this season, SMART STYLE PANTS, now in its second season, and a collaboration line with Ines de la Fressange Paris. The collection was showcased on male and female models, showcasing the "LifeWear" concept. The men's HEATTECH jacket features a softer, more stretchy material, an aluminum-printed lining on the inside, and a new men's Ultra Light Down parka for increased warmth. The fleece also uses heat-storing yarn to raise the temperature inside the garment by 1.5 degrees, further updating the high-tech materials. The lineup caters to a wide range of needs, expanding the design variations for Extra Fine Merino, increasing the variety of cashmere items, and making the Smart Style Pants suitable for everything from the office to dinner. The Topics collection features traditional Scottish-inspired check patterns on core items such as Ultra Light Down jackets, shirts, skirts, and pants. The much-talked-about collaboration with Inès de la Fressange launches two lines: jackets and shirts for everyday wear, and a black-themed dress, further emphasizing Parisian chic.

Design director and art director Naoki Takizawa said, "We wanted to update Uniqlo's Lifewear project and emphasize the idea of clothing being a part of everyday life. Until now, we've had mannequins wear the clothes, but this time we wanted people to see up close how they wear them, how they look on a real person, and how they look when they move. We took a different approach from the Paris Collection as a process to help people understand what is the best way to get to know the concept and worldview of Lifewear. We will continue to conduct more research in the future and would like to create clothing that serves as a common language."
