Shinjuku Isetan opens "Park" on the living floor. Designing for a richer lifestyle

Mar 13, 2014

Isetan Shinjuku Main Building has begun renovations of its Living and Baby/Children's Floors in preparation for its grand reopening in March 2015. On March 12th, ahead of the full opening, a promotional space called "Park" soft-opened on the Living Floor on the fifth floor of the Main Building.

In March 2013, the store remodeled and reopened its women's clothing and accessories floors, marking its first anniversary this year. As the next step, the Living and Baby/Children's Floors on the upper floors will be renovated to create a full-line store that combines fashion with lifestyle.

Under the theme of "Do What Makes You Happy," the new Living Floor will not simply introduce lifestyle goods (items and experiences), but will also propose lifestyles and ways of living (scenes). Based on the concept of designing the "richness of customers' lives," the store will evolve its value through "service consulting." The soft-opened "Park" sales floor is located around the escalators on each floor and in the space connecting two escalators, and is the starting point, intermediate point, and end point of each floor's circulation. The Park will showcase a variety of lifestyle-related items and experiences, including limited-time shops selected by Isetan and new worldviews created through collaborations with other brands. Various events are currently being held on this floor to commemorate the soft opening. Center Park/The Stage #5 is hosting two promotions (both until March 31st): "LLADRO IN THE FOREST - Happiness in the Forest -" by Lladro and flower artist Azuma Makoto, and "Make your own time - How to spend a happy tea time -," a personal order event by Richard Ginori. A variety of limited-time events are being held in West Park, including "Today's Lifestyle Recipe" (until April 15th), themed around cooking, hobbies, outings, and travel, and in East Park, "HAPPY NEW LIFE -Feel the material and the design-" (until March 31st), which introduces sophisticated interiors centered around Italian furniture brand GERVASONI, whose art director is world-renowned designer Paola Navone. Regarding the remodeling, Hiroshi Kondo, general manager of sales and sales for Living & IDS at the store, commented, "We will provide information and products that can only be found at Isetan. Among these, the Park is a place for encounters that offer overwhelming excitement and suggestions for lifestyles just beyond. We hope to inspire surprise, discovery, and learning." Hidetoshi Soma, general manager of the living products department at the store, also explained, "The creation of the park has expanded the flow of people and made it possible to provide a comfortable shopping environment. We will continue with further renovations this fall, aiming for a grand opening next spring."
